I write to you all with a very heavy heart. For the last week or so, I've been texting a friend, and he has not replied to my texts. Worried about him, I gave him a call yesterday. He didn’t seem like himself; I noticed it right away. When I asked him why he wasn’t replying to my texts, he shared the heartbreaking news: he has cancer.
He told me he didn’t really want to talk about it but that he would be going into surgery in a few days, and then he said he had to go. I could tell he was about to cry, so I told him I'd be there for him if he needed me and then let him go.
I am very sad. Years ago, I was in a bad mental space, and he was there for me when I needed a friend. I am heartbroken that he is struggling like this. I have always assumed he would be around for a long time. Again, I don’t know the details, he could absolutely crush this evil thing and be fine, long term. Not knowing the details makes it so much worse.
I have so much to say but somehow don’t have the words. Perhaps that's okay since he doesn’t want to talk about it. I've spent all last night and this morning thinking about it. As a person of action, I want to fight back against what's hurting my friend, but sadly, I cannot. Cancer is truly awful.
Though I can’t do anything for my friend, I can do something to address cancer as a whole. For some time, I have been setting aside some money to promote this newsletter. It has been almost a year in the making, and I finally have enough to do some advertising. Now with this news, I want to donate the money to Cancer research. However, the business does still need the money, and we do donate every single month to charities helping starving children. We can’t just cut off that charitable funding. The kids need us.
I prayed about it and came up with a plan. We'll do a subscription drive for charity. This way, we can raise money to fight cancer without jeopardizing the company or our other charitable commitments. For the next week, if anyone upgrades their subscription from free to paid, New American Empire will donate $25 per person to the Cancer Research Institute (100% rated). It might not sound like much, but it can add up quickly.
If only 4 people upgrade that’s already $100. If 10 people upgrade that’s $250. If God works a work and 1000 people upgrade that’s $25,000. The potential for massive charitable fundraising is great.
Whether or not you join this fundraising effort, please pray for my friend's healing. Pray for complete healing from the top of his head to the soles of his feet! He deserves a long and full life.
We are not just going to sit around and do nothing! Let's unite to fight cancer!
Next week, I'll update you on our fundraising efforts, so stay tuned.
